THE NERD CORNER 🤓
One of the most popular types of neural networks, the Convolutional Neural Network (CNN), was inspired by the visual cortex of animals. In the 1950s and 1960s, scientists Hubel and Wiesel performed experiments on cat and monkey brains and discovered specialized cells in the visual cortex that reacted only to certain features like edges or textures. These findings inspired future research into artificial neural networks that could similarly process visual data in layers, extracting increasingly abstract features at each level.
